How to Photograph Well

By Meg Strobel
Diamond Nexus Digital Imagist and Freelance Photographer

“I don’t photograph well.” “I ALWAYS look terrible in pictures.”

“Oh, don’t you point that camera at me.”

When I’m photographing I hear these complaints a lot. I understand being camera shy, but you, yes you, can look great in every photograph! Don’t believe me? Try these tips!

Practice, practice, practice.
Set aside a few minutes to really look at yourself in a full-length mirror. Practice your smile, not your fake smile, but your beautiful, oh-my-gosh-I’m-getting-married-to-the-most-handsome-man-in-the-world-smile. (Thinking about something that really makes you happy reflects in your smile). Stand-up straight!

Don’t face the camera dead on with your arms at your side- it’ll make you look wider!

Instead move your arms away from your body, or put them behind you.

TURTLE!

Don't lower your chin because you will get what double what you intended~

This is my favorite trick! Elongate your neck, by lifting your chin and putting your shoulders back. It’ll help negate a double chin, and make you look long and lean. (I call this move the turtle, because it reminds me of the way turtles poke their heads out from their shells!)

BE CONFIDENT!

You’re doing great! Think about how you’re carrying your body and pay attention to your posture, but don’t over complicate it. Relax and have fun!

So….there you have it, 3 easy tips and you’re on your way to Miss Photogenic! Oh! And keep your eyes on the Diamond Nexus Blog! We’ll be sharing more tips and tricks, and as always the latest scoop on man-made diamond engagement rings and diamond alternatives!
