A wedding is a day, but the photographs last a lifetime. Finding a photographer that can really capture your style is vital. When choosing a photographer consider this:
1. Know what YOU want. The same way you’ve carefully chosen your dress, your cake and your jewelry, choosing a photographer requires careful thought. Photographers have different specialties, so have an idea of the type of images you’d like to see, and communicate this to your photographer.
2. Remember…you get what you pay for. Look for an experienced photographer with a large portfolio, but know that their experience comes with a price. Hopefully you’ve saved some major coin by choosing an affordable engagement ring, but if you’re looking for a low-budget option, you can still get great photos, just be sure to ask to see a few COMPLETE weddings. It’s easy for a young photographer to a have a few wonderful images, but their coverage of an entire wedding might be a different story. Try not to skimp on photos by having a family friend do it, you might be disappointed with the images, and there can be no retakes!
3. Something wonderful a lot of photographers are doing now is delivering their images digitally, along with the right to print them on your own. If ordering prints and thinking about parents’ books is too overwhelming before the big day, ask your photographer about this option. Keep in mind, although you may only walk away with a DVD or flash drive you’ll likely have 100s of pictures that you can have printed anywhere, anytime. It’s mega-cool.
4. Consider having your wedding photographer do your engagement session. (Some photographers even include this in the price of their wedding package, or, ask about a discount on an engagement session when booking your wedding.) You can consider it a trial run for the big day. You’ll get a feel for how your photographer interacts with you, and how well he or she captures you. It’s also a great time to get to know your photographer and get some advice on posing. (Be sure to ask for a close-up of your Eco-Friendly Diamond jewelry!)
Once you’ve chosen your photographer, keep in contact with them, and know their cancellation policy in case you change the date.
Oh! And keep your eyes on our blog- next up I’ll teach some easy posing techniques to make sure you’re looking picture perfect in all your photos from the bridal shower to the bachelorette party, and of course your wedding day!
Shine On!
